The Weather in Costa Rica
The weather in Costa Rica is determined by two seasons clearly defined - the dry season that goes from December to April, and the rainy season (green season) that goes from May to November.
During the dry season it is normal to have blue sky every day, the temperature goes up, the country side looks brown, and the rivers have less water. These conditions for the dry season are different for the Atlantic and North Zones in the country, where it is normal to have rain almost every month of the year. During this season in the country side you can appreciate at night the sky full with stars, the full moon paints the landscape with a silver color, and the sunsets are very romantic. Some roads are going to be dusty, so if you're driving your HOLA! Rent a Car, roll up the windows and turn on the A/C. All of our cars and 4 wheel drives have air conditioning.
During the rainy season it is normal to have a sunny morning with a blue sky, and in the afternoon the rain comes for 2 hours, this permits the temperature to be cooler, the rivers have more water, the country side turns to green, the birds sing more and louder, and the gardens are more exuberant. Some roads become muddy and more difficult to drive, and in some areas, a 4x4 is necessary. For example if you go to the beach during this time of the year, in the morning you can have activities under the sun, and during the afternoon you can drink a delicious coffee on the deck of your room while you see the rain falling over the sand and the ocean. Thunderstorms can occur by the beach and lower elevations, and the lightening and thunder in the tropics are exciting! If you're driving, it is sometimes safer to pull off the road and wait a few minutes for a cloudburst to pass.
